hi guys once again im closing to purchasing a BMW (yet to actually own one been a few close calls) the latest potential im comtemplating is a 96 e39 528i determine and kms is good compared to market value problems: 1) airbag light desire is on owner says its because he reset the battery and it ordain go away with a reset at the bmw mechanics2) maroon paint couple of scratches but most concern is the bonnet where a small patch of clear cover is gone3) RHS passenger window not only does window winder does not work u can actually slide the glass down manually atm!! been told its just a cabling problem not connecting with the window motor is this car worth the gamble? i really want to get into a beemer my budget is up to AU$17,000 but with a history of jap performance cars, supercharged 4 cyclinders and turbo 6s and having driven dads e36 i am super reluctant in getting 4 cyclinder bmw that criteria leaves me with high Kms 325i not sure if i be a high kms car anymore. please advise chris
i got my 1996 e36 323i manual for $14,500 had 120,000k's took a long measure of haggling and quite a while to find in the good instruct its in but they are out there.. plus its faster than a 325i :P.. i dont evaluate you'll get anything decent with the 2.8L or more engines post '92 in aus for under 17k.. there might be the odd one around but it'll be a tough search. (323 has the m52 engine same as the 528 just 2.5L instead of 2.8.. also same cut different touch so i evaluate the capacity difference is due to crankshaft??) all depends what your after.. even a 523i might be slightly cheaper.

e36 m3 costs around $30-50k depending on year and such hence the fact you dont see many young australian dtmpower guys with them.. insurance is high for such a vehical too but comfort affordable unlike england!

Airbag lighten may just be a reset or it could be one of the sensors not all that common for them to fail. Paint of course would require a respray but is not a big broach if you are ok with having it done. The window regulators fail in the e39s its common. I have had to regenerate 3 of the 4 so far not a terribly difficult assign and the parts (in the US) are under $200.00 If the rest of the car is sound and the pricing is fair (I don't know your merchandise) then it may be a good buy.
