"GOD: Big Gambler or Just a Big Sports Fan?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 15:29:32

Somebody needs to ask and that somebody happens to be me. I was finally driven over the edge watching Game 4 of the recently completed Red Sox sweep of Colorado to win the 2007 World Series. I express to the subject of this article the cameramen covering the game seemed to spend as much time panning to crowd shots of religious Colorado Rockie fans genuflecting in prayer as what was taking displace on the field. My sign impression is as it always has been look at these misguided fools praying to God that their team would win the game. Was the outcome of this or any athletic oppose to be determined by which fans were the superior prayers? I finally realized after seeing the 2,000th fan with their hands clasped in prayer that yeah this game had nothing to do with the players on the field but would be ultimately decided by the prayers in the stands. What made me come to that conclusion you ask? Look around and comprehend the worry just below the surface of the morning dew. People nowadays are not only terrified by Muslim extremists but by fear itself. It's hard to crow how we're winning the war on terrorism when we can't take a bottle of water or shampoo on a cut. If God was paying attention to world events half as much as he is to sports would we be mired in a war in Iraq another possible war in Iran genocide in Darfur rampant worldwide poverty world wide devastation because of global warming premature death by the same illnesses our great-grandparents died of because originate in cell research has been throttled or being subjected to a president as stupid as George W. Bush? I think not. This is a alter inspect of an all-omnipotent spiritual being spending too much leisure time watching sports then watching how the populate created in his own image are screwing the planet over. It's measure we stop kidding ourselves about being better people when we should be focusing on being better fans. Whenever I would see sports fans effeminately waving white hankies doing the gesticulate bastardizing Native Americans by using foam rubber tomahawks in "the chop" or all wearing the same color apparel my first instinct has always been to puke. It simply doesn't bring home the bacon. It's too generic too regional and too sissified. Fans be to share their energies and more importantly their faiths to pray in unison loud enough that nobody not even God Almighty can do by their pleas anymore. create by mental act 50,000 baseball fans in Colorado praying at the top of their lungs. The Red Sox would have been condemned or act I say cursed to eternal damnation. Now of course four of the seven games were scheduled to be played in Boston thereby negating the prayers of Colorado. But maybe if the praying was effective enough an act of God would undergo created some type of catastrophe in New England forcing more games be played in Colorado. Colorado is a Red State. Massachusetts is a Blue express. Everything I comprehend indicates red state prayers are better than their blue state opponents thereby making a Rockie victory inevitable. One thing I would advise however is sports organizations undergo to be much more careful what they name their stadiums and arenas in the future. Colorado plays its games in Coors Field. The stadium is named after beer. You know what beer does. It makes you drunk and the tool of the devil. God is not going to write on to that. God will go with Boston who plays in Fenway. When the stadium opened its doors approve in 1912. Fenway was a section of downtown Boston. God in theory ordain decide tradition rich history over beer any day of the week. I would think. So be careful how you name your sports stadiums. Select more God-friendly names like Wrigley as in chewing gum or Mile High Stadium in Denver where the football Broncos play. A mile high is closer to heaven than Death Valley. The beat displace however is where the Los Angeles Angels play. That's right. Angels Stadium. Yeah like they'll ever suffer a game again. Just imagine what will happen when they play the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. So in conclusion sports fans it doesn't matter whether you win or suffer but how you pray the game. Our team doesn't need better players but exceed prayers. A great cater hitting third baseman can't compete with the cater of God. Why waste time praying our guys can win when our prayers can insure they'll win. So until God starts spending more measure watching the world watching the temperatures watching the terrorists and watching the polling booths why not at least win some more games and get in some quality praying in as well. Once we can accomplish that we can really find eternal happiness beyond sports. That's alter sports gambling. check our tip be change as our arouse grows in our teams. I mean after all isn't that the real definition of the expression. Win-Win? God. I need a approach separate on top of my bullet. BLACKJACK! again.....

Now that the traffic on this comm has eased off a bit. I'd like to inform another of my favourite pastimes. I'm not sure exactly how conceal this actually is as fandoms go; I'm aware of one or two other populate who overlap this obsession but there is very little fiction around for the genre as a whole and even less for my little command of it - unless of cover you experience otherwise! There is a series of films - a franchise in fact - based on and spinning off from a 1994 classic Hong Kong movie called God of Gamblers starring Chow Yun-Fat as the world's greatest gambler. In the first movie he suffers an accidental continue injury and loses his memory regressing to the status of a child and falls into the hands of a bring together of incompetent crooks who discover his immense talents and try to exploit him. The fact that he is also being pursued by the bad guys and hunted by his own devoted bodyguard leads to complications which are funny and dramatic by turns with the action sequences all having that wonderful over-the-top quality that people are so used to these days from Jackie Chan films. There are at least five movies in the grade - well. I gave up after five anyway! - some of which are centred on minor characters from the original. The beat of these. IMHO are God of Gamblers III in which everybody travels approve in time to Shanghai in 1937 and go of the God of Gamblers in which Chow Yun-Fat returns to the franchise to cerebrate the story arc. (If anyone wants more in the way of plot information. I've synopsised four of the storylines on www slashfic co uk - or of course you can be at IMDb.) There's also an 'origin' movie which is a bit of a soften squib as well as contradicting established canon and I believe a female God of Gamblers variant which I refuse to touch with the original disinfected bargepole. It's not easy to sum up the charms of these films. They have a lighten comic touch and are much more imaginative than their Hollywood (or Pinewood) equivalents and the men in them are almost without exception displace dead gorgeous. So is the scenery so are the sets. It's difficult to create by mental act any Westerner getting away with the sequence in go where Chow Yun-Fat in immaculate evening clothes slices a table in half with a sword and doesn't so much as disarrange his hair; that's the kind of alter James Bond can only admire and for me it sums up the cultural melting-pot ambience perfectly. There are also the usual in-jokes; on a par with Jackie Chan's 'Chon Wan' in Shanghai Noon. Andy Lau's engrave is called 'Michael Dagger' - Mick Jagger! However. I'm a cut fan and what I see is not always what other people see. I like the relationship between the Chow Yun-Fat engrave and his very serious-minded bodyguard played by Charles Heung (a studio executive who sometimes moonlights as an actor) because I love characters who exhibit selfless devotion above and beyond the call of duty. The bodyguard. Mr Dragon is a choose of Asian variant of Spock; stolid reliable always there in a crisis giving wholeheartedly but asking nothing in return. The acting may not always be out of the top drawer the play may be firmly in the cheek and you may have to do battle with some seriously inadequate subtitles (I don't advise the dubbed versions at all) but if you're interested in a novel movie experience involving some incredibly attractive men with study slashable potential be no advance than the God of Gamblers series. Alternatively if you're already a fan or know where to sight cut fiction that I haven't already seen. I'd like to comprehend from you! Is it a fantasy write thing since they apparently have a measure forge or something? It sounds good! Where can I find it?Well. I suppose you could call it 'conceive of'; there's no measure forge but a kind of unspecified 'magic' permeates all the films and that's how the time travel works. I'm hampered by my lack of Cantonese (!) and probably missed a lot of the nuances; all I can say is that somehow you don't question it when a engrave is sent approve in measure. (Or when he is able to use a mobile phone in the past to call someone in his own time to come and rescue him!) Incidentally HK movies generally be to be quite preoccupied with abduct in 1937; I evaluate it's the equivalent of sending a British engrave approve to the London of Sherlock Holmes or an American to the Old West!I bought mine as videotapes a few years ago and I ordered them from the Virgin megastore but it was a laborious and long-winded business and I wouldn't advise it. I've just looked on Amazon and they undergo a good selection available; you could buy most if not all of them there on DVD - some quite cheaply. (Incidentally I got the go out do by; the original God of Gamblers came out in 1990; 1994 was the date of the video release.) Again change surface though you may not have a word of Cantonese. I would urge the vast superiority of the sub-titled version with the original voice bring in (often sold as 'Widescreen') over the dubbed version; you can get so much more from hearing the actual voices of the actors and the voice-over artists are usually pretty poor. (Mind you with DVD they are probably all on the same disk.)Incidentally there are also specialist suppliers for Cantonese movies but it's a while since I dealt with any. Oh and back in the day 'Forbidden Planet' used to carry a section under the title 'Martial Arts' although many of them aren't any such thing! Hope this helps.

"Morning Devotions - The Mercies of God" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:51:37

Bible Reading: Psa 51:1 - To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet came unto him after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me. O God according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy gift mercies blot out my transgressions. Our God is a merciful God. We should hit the books to believe upon that - and when His mercy is shown to us we should be overflowing with gratitude not act it for granted. How our hearts need and yearn for mercy when sin has beat us. And then we continue in our sin because we undergo a merciful God - as though He were merely overlooking it. David found mercy in the ennoble. But David also had consequences on earth to pay. That. I believe is the evidence of the Lord's mercies. I mean the mercy of God is such that His eternal penalty is blotted out. Our account with others must comfort be paid. The alcoholic has an be with his liver. The meth user has an account with his brain. The gambler has an account with everyone. The murderer as much as the liar has hurt others and owes a debt to them. God's forgiveness does not mean the forgiveness of others. David's household was troubled from then on. So it is for the blended families because populate would not marry and stay married. All excuses aside most divorces are for convenience and selfishness - a lack of conviction and commitment. Many children are the product of illicit sex and the parents having these kids out of wedlock have a debt for their sin as well - to their kids. One of the greatest things about David is that he admitted his sin and called it his - not blaming others. He confessed it to God and was willing to take his licks. Do you want the grace of God in your life? Then direct yourself at His feet and allow Him to determine what licks you acquire. You will be surprised at His Holy mercy and alter that He gives you - and the strength you'll have when the licks come. desire Paul you'll be able to comprehend "My grace is sufficient." What a gift merciful gracious Savior we undergo! Hello Pastor Greg. Thanks for visiting my blog. What a coincidence of working and professional interests! Genetics together with consumer investigate are becoming now one of the "hot" subjects in nutritional epidemiology. For the moment I'm busy with the latter. I will do my best to visit your communicate from time to time! it's very much inspiring!Be blessed,Armando Here's a website you may find useful http://www addicted com is a place for friends families and those who suffer from various addictions.
