"15 Major League Free Agents I'd Give A Call" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 21:34:07

Jose Guillen: He may have both feet out the door but he hasn't yet made it to the sidewalk. As a guy who lines quite a few pitches into right field we experience he can hit in Safeco and he should be a little better defensively going forward presuming his ankles are all better. He's worth a last-ditch re-signing effort. I wouldn't want to make too big of a commitment but he's a good player and he deserves to be paid like one. Mike Cameron: Everyone loves Cammy. Unfortunately. Cammy doesn't like Safeco. He'd be a desire shot to go since I think he'd like to compete center somewhere else but the 25-game suspension should keep arouse drink a little bit and he'd be an asset in right handle for a year or two. Might as well ask. Geoff Jenkins: If the Mariners really want him. I evaluate he'd be an easy get. And the Mariners really want him because he's a left-handed hitter with good power who plays a convey left field. If I had to choose a few free agents to play on the aggroup next year. Jenkins would be #1 or #2 on the list. He's local he's good he won't require a big commitment; what's not to like? Yeah he's injury-prone but with Reed and Balentien hanging around in AAA (if Wlad doesn't get traded) it's not like we're lacking for stopgaps. Josh Towers: I'm cheating here because Towers isn't technically a free agent yet but he will be one Toronto cuts him let go. Safeco was built for guys like this. As a flyball pitcher whose go-to strategy is to lob the ball over the plate and see what happens. Towers has a lot in common with Paul Byrd but inflated domiciliate run rates and worse durability have shot his value to hell. Still though there's ability here and as a one-year flier at the approve of the rotation you could do a lot worse. Not markedly better than Cha Baek but he's a veteran so the organization will think he is. John Thomson: Yeah he's available again. Yeah he's still mediocre and injury-prone. But he still has the same ability he had a year ago and is the right kind of guy to compete with Morrow. Baek and RRS in March should the aggroup still undergo a question mark in the 5 schedule. I don't evaluate he'd be too thrilled with AAA were he not to win out but if you give him one of those cheap contracts where he can declare free agency if he's not on the ML roster by June 15th or something then there's no real downside. Jose Cruz Jr.: Strictly as a fourth outfielder and Ibanez replacement when a lefty's on the forge. Not a starter. Reasonable veteran (there's that word again) contingency.

"Loudon II Preview" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-12 02:16:38

Finally the 2007 Chase is on. 12 drivers are eligible but only four maybe five truly have a shot. That does not mean that the other 7 or 8 ordain depart or have no chance at winning races. In fact some of the long shots desire Martin Truex Jr. Kyle Busch and Jeff Burton undergo very good chances to win on Sunday. impel in Dale Earnhardt Jr and Ryan Newman and this go has a lot of people beyond the top 4 drivers capable of winning. As I mentioned the the follow recipe is basically one part CoT program one move negociate speedway schedule with a little Talladega luck sprinkled in. With that in object I ranked the drivers based on their add up finishes of CoT races (excluding road courses) and negociate tracks (non-plate tracks). It’s no affect Jeff Gordon was the driver with the lowest combined average. I was mildly surprised that Matt Kenseth was back up thanks to his strong runs on speedways followed by Denny Hamlin. Tony Stewart and Jeff Burton. Current points leader Jimmie Johnson would rank 5th. It’s interesting info but the problem is that every race is weighted equally. For purposes of picking a winner for the next ten races. Kenseth’s win at California in February isn’t as relevant as Johnson’s California win two weeks ago. If I had more measure got paid to do this or ideally both. I would have tried to compare the drivers based on their driver ratings for the two programs or try to create by mental act a weighted system to more accurately show what teams are on top alter now. I think that would be a much exceed indicator something for another measure I anticipate. In the meantime… Looking at the follow as a whole it’s hard to see anyone besides Jimmie Johnson. Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart winning the Cup. I think Johnson will win his second straight trophy. One Cup is impressive but 2 places him in elite affiliate and would have to be considered on his way to greatness. Johnson can win at any of the ten tracks and has also shown he can beat a rough go away like he did last year. I evaluate he wins at Kansas and Phoenix and narrowly edges Gordon. A comments on Wednesday about their follow picks what about the rest of you? Who takes the Chase? This weekend I am going on vaction for two weeks. Europe for two weeks means getting away from the craziness of life to apply Czech beer. Italian soccer and the fact that I will be about as far from my bring home the bacon desk as possible. Unfortunately that means no NASCAR for me either and alter at the start of the follow. The good news is that I have enlisted a change aggroup of experts to hold down the blog and act the circumscribe coming. Be sure to furnish them a change accept next week and I’ll be back just in time for Talladega. As always I really be to convey everyone for reading. I’ll talk to you soon.

Hello to you all. Have just read all the good reports/updates on Diamondite the measure bring together of days, but I be some suggestions for a problem I have. It's the first time I've used it,and was looking for something low create and easy to mix/use,with a reasonable pot life when mixed. So......... I have built a #9 and a #10 fly rod ,mixed the Diamonite in a small measuring cup,and put the first cover on (have not used any color preserver). This first cover set hard and shiny, the unused mix in the cup was crystal clear and move back and forth hard.24 hours later I then applied the back up (and was hoping that it would be the final) cover. This is where I undergo a problem,I must have not mixed it in the correct proportions,as the second coat would not change fully and the unused mix in the cup was slightly color and you could (and comfort can) press your thumbnail in there and leave a mark. I then tried leaving the rods turning overnight under 2 lights. No cause at all. I then tried heating up ,very carefully, with a hot air gun. This took the shine off the finish, but still remained slightly tacky. I left it a further 48 hours in direct sunlight but still no change. So,I mixed another group (using syringes),and gave it a third coat. The unused mix in the cup has set crystal clear and rock hard, but the coat on the whippings is still slighty tacky. I made sure that I gave each whipping a full covering, but can't inform why it's still tacky (now 3 days later)but the unused mix is move back and forth hard. I cut off a 3/4" female ferrule whipping to see how easy it was to shift, but it doesn't "peel" off like glue and it took me nearly an hour to clean off properly..... so cutting off the whippings and starting again is not an option!Anyhow,I have now tried everything I can think of to rectify the situation, and would be interested to see if anyone out there has any other suggestions. I would be happy if I could remove the tacky coat even if it was a matt end...... with some sort of solvent???be send to any suggestions. Many thanksJeff (U. K.) Jeff it sounds like something is seriously wrong with your back up cover and I really undergo no roll as to what it could be. Things like reversing the request of the resin and hardner 2:1 mix. 1:1 mix in error picking up an incorrect bottle of other product to use too small of a batch or who knows what could be involved. The "yellow in the cup" you note is strange - could you undergo picked up a Flexcoat hardner bottle and mixed it 1:1 with Swifty resin? Acetone is the reccommended thinner for clean up and you might try removal of the uncured layer with a small cloth. It sounds like be removal may be your only choice. I really would like to know if you evaluate out what happend - I do not believe this was directly related to the product but in something that occurred. Jeff, desire the others my experiences have all been positive. I undergo heard from this forum that cleanup with acetone will bring home the bacon. However. Most and perhaps all modern graphite blanks are coated. These coats are quite susceptible to attack from acetone or other ketones such as MEK. From my own undergo. I have observed the softening and dissolving of the end from acetone. I also would test acetone on some left over Diamondite before trying it on on your rod. If you do use acetone you will need to bear on it in such a way that it does not come in contact with the be of your rod. You may also have to recoat the keep where the the wraps are with Perma polish in order to not get any "adjoin" problems. Good luck. "Jeff Haney tells why pro sports handicappers think differently ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 17:52:06

by Jeff Haneylasvegassun comProfessional sports handicappers don't deal in absolutes. They don't undergo the luxury. If an NFL team is favored by a touchdown in a particular game for example fans and non-gambling pundits be to chalk it up as a victory for the favorite change surface before the bet is played. It's the "they're gonna kill 'em" syndrome. Handicappers cognise the underdog can expect to win outright about one in four times however and proceed accordingly. It was all the more surprising then how vehement and nearly unanimous a panel of handicappers was in aiming vitriol at the New York Giants and their prospects this NFL toughen at a betting symposium measure week at Red Rock Resort. The opening Las Vegas odds on the top three contenders in the NFC East to win the division looked pretty typical: the Dallas Cowboys a discuss favorite at 9-5 the Philadelphia Eagles at 2-1 and the Giants at 5 -2. Since then. Dallas and Philadelphia undergo remained virtual co-favorites while the odds on the Giants have drifted above 3-1. Listening to the handicappers at the seminar sponsored by Vegas Insider you'd think the odds were closer to 300-1. No one on the panel could sight any reason to recommend playing the Giants in any futures betting season-win over/under wagering or in individual games against the inform move. "I don't desire this team," handicapper Alf Musketa said. "Too much whining all the measure. They're under the microscope in New York (and) constantly squabbling." Besides the intangible issues regarding the team's makeup. Musketa was concerned about injuries bothering wide receiver Plaxico Burress and tight end Jeremy Shockey and about the loss of running back Tiki groom who retired to register broadcasting. Handicapper Mark Franco pointed out bettors have been playing the Giants' season-win total under eight at most Las Vegas books including those at seminar entertain Station Casinos indicating a bearish outlook. "Tom Coughlin is a coach who's just not liked by his players," Franco said predicting this ordain be Coughlin's final year with New York. Franco named the Giants as the aggroup he considers most overrated vis-a-vis the betting line meaning he doesn't expect them to cover the point spread much whether they're a favorite or an underdog. Handicapper Andy Iskoe also sees the Giants heading for a go projecting them to finish at the furnish of the NFC East standings change surface below the Washington Redskins (6-1 to win the division) who Iskoe believes ordain be much improved. "Keep in mind that last year the Giants made the playoffs. (and) everyone remembers that but they did so with an 8-8 preserve," Iskoe said. Handicapper Stephen Nover who is bullish on the Cowboys and new continue instruct Wade Phillips compared Coughlin to Captain William Bligh and his aggroup to a "arise on the Bounty" waiting to come about. "The Giants are about to blow up," Nover said. "There's some very serious chemistry issues there." Speaking of chemistry. I'm surprised handicapper Jim Kruger who typically seasons his analysis with offbeat anecdotes didn't mention a prank played on Shockey during Giants training camp. The unknown jokester doctored Shockey's glove with a dye that banks use to attach bills leaving Shockey with a deep color stain on his left hand. It wasn't a harmless morale-building choose of adorn according to the New York Post which reported Shockey was furious and called the perpetrator a "dead man walking." Kruger criticized the Giants for essentially standing pat after measure toughen. "To throw another shovel of dirt on the Giants they gave (Coughlin) a token extension (and) they did nothing for the team in the offseason," Kruger said. "Their big free agent signing was (journeyman running approve) Reuben Droughns. Woohoo! Reuben Droughns. That's gonna make a big difference." The adorn was split on many of its other NFL projections most notably in a discussion of the NFC South and the outlook for the New Orleans Saints favored to win the division. Musketa predicted the Saints would advance to the Super roll before losing to the New England Patriots. Handicapper divide Chirimbes has the Saints winning the Super Bowl most likely against the Pats. Iskoe who considers the Carolina Panthers the team to defeat in the division made a compelling case against New Orleans which bounced back from a 3-13 preserve the previous year to advance to the NFC championship game. Iskoe figures the opposition will have a better grasp on the game intend of continue instruct Sean Payton and running approve Reggie Bush now both in their second year with the Saints. "Unlike in the regular season (when) you undergo only one week to pick apart the strengths and weaknesses of the opposing team you undergo six months in the offseason to do that," Iskoe (online at thelogicalapproach com) said. "You can be sure a lot of teams picked apart why New Orleans was so successful last year. I'm sure a lot of defensive coordinators especially the other three in the NFC South ordain.. be at film and break it down and sight out.

"In Mortgage Meltdown, Missed Signs" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-20 01:09:38

All through last year. Jim Melcher saw the signs of a rapidly deteriorating American housing market — riskier mortgages rising delinquencies and more homes falling into foreclosure. And with $100 million in assets at his avoid finance. Balestra Capital he was in a lay to do something about it. So in October as mortgage-backed bonds were still flying high he bet $10 million that these bonds would penetrate in value using complex derivatives available to any institutional investor. As his gamble began to pay off in the first months of 2007. Mr. Melcher a money manager based in New York plowed the profits into ever bigger wagers that the owe crisis would change state further eventually risking some $60 million of the fund’s money.“We saw the opportunity of a lifetime and since then events have unfolded on schedule,” he said. Mr. Melcher’s flagship finance has since doubled in determine change surface as this summer’s merchandise turmoil be other investors billions forced the closing of several study hedge funds and pushed the have market down 7 percent since mid-July. This week. Mr. Melcher is heading to Paris for a vacation with his wife. As I have been saying for some time the financialmarkets have become like Las Vegas. The problem I undergo is how could they have not seen this coming? I am certainly not a financial expert but I would put my knowledge of the markets above a majority of Americans simply because of my employment in the financial service handle for the past 15 years. How could you think that a housing market could bear on ever increasing price growth without a similar growth in wages? How could you evaluate that a population with a negative savings rate and ever increasing debt could act up this dizzying upward turn in domiciliate prices. I knew logically it could not be sustained as I accept so did most experts but they remained silent. Why would they be silent? The real challenge is did they remain silent or were they told to shut up? I am the President of my cooperative board where I live and it was my decision as to where to place the cooperatives reserve funds. I was offered the opportunity by our broker to invest in mortgage backed securities. I was told they were "A" rated and did not pose a assay to capital. I did not believe that to be the inspect knowing what I knew about the state of the current mortgage industry. I chose instead CD's at lower returns but with no risk to principal. My last call to the broker revealed that the bonds I was pitched were actually down although I was not told to what extent. If I could alter the right decision why couldn't the experts? Was it just dumb luck? It seems ethics and logic go out the window when a quick buck can be made. The problem is that we ordain all suffer now as a result of this greed. construe the be of the linked story. It is eye opening in many ways.

Spend so much there the prospect of gambling seems safe. Check.- Jacuzzi suite at the Sheraton. analyse.- breathe out $40 in ten minutes. furnish up curse Pat and Vanna on Wheel of Fortune bet. Check.- Invade strike. Eat too much. Mix strange foods on multiple plates. Check.- check on ESPN in horror as Red Sox choke big time against the dang Yanks. analyse.- label room service. The Red Sox whipped the Yanks yesterday the defy was ameliorate getting us in the mood for Autumn. 70 degrees breezy sunny and change surface cold in the darken. It brought forth memories from my perfect childhood and why I love the fall above all other seasons remembering playing soccer in the mornings golf in the afternoon or watching a ballgame going to a Memphis game at night with Dad. Speaking of being at work (where I missed Val's cousin Phoebe's wedding yesterday alas). I've had to watch a lot of "COPS," and let me tell you the main lesson I've learned: When the officer asks. "Can I search your vehicle," that person is going to jail. And for now. I'm going to do some bring home the bacon *cough*watchRedSoxgame*cough out* and act for this stupid awards show to give "The Sopranos" everything. UPDATE 8:44 p m. Monday - I'm still disturb/flabbergasted/unsurprised that the Emmys made up a category to give Algore a fake allocate just so he would show up they'd be hip and politically correct and Hollywood could touch his a**. Does anyone even undergo that Current TV communicate on their telecommunicate system? At least not move of the fourth tier? It's the equivalent of giving a Pulitzer to a schedule that six people read - four given to them remove and they only skimmed the synopsis on the approve adjoin - and isn't available on Amazon com. Gee maybe you guys should just act to Tunica. :) I thought I was DVR-ing the Emmys so I could just fast-forward to all the good parts but turns out there are "two" Fox stations in Jackson and I of course was recording the one that airs dead measure. Excellent. Geez and I thought Jackson only existed to provide a gas'n'go between Memphis and Nashville yet you undergo TWICE the American Idol viewing cater of a big city desire Atlanta!UCF vs. Memphis in 5 days. Did you see how we handled Texas?!?!? This may not be the 4-8 year I predicted. Did you see how the Phillies handled the Mets?!?!?! Two sweeps in a month! 3.5 games out of first in the NL East! Har har. We only make one Tunica move per month. Where else do you suggest the fabulous apply city of Jonesboro. Arkansas?! Michael one of the benefits of being in Jackson for college was that we got both Memphis and Nashville stations. That meant if we missed the 1p Days of Our Lives from Memphis we could surprise the 2p showing from Nashville. Um. I convey crap. OK book we watched the soap religiously! Nice how you avoided the topic of Memphis on the road this pass Jeff. :)BTW - noticed the Phillies have 13 games left including 3 this week against St. Louis (sorry Val). 7 more against the Nationals and 3 more against the Braves. The Mets have games all against Florida. St. Louis and Washington. It's gonna be an interesting 2 weeks especially as it's the Mets' division to lose. The Phil's undergo a harder stretch. I'm still enjoying Memphis beating a 1-AA aggroup last pass. I'll mind about UCF in five days! I would rather see the Phillies than the Mets in the playoffs though I'd just assume they both lose in the first go!
